Benone and Downhill Coast, located on the northwestern shores of Northern Ireland in County Londonderry, encompasses an 8-mile stretch of the Causeway Coast renowned for its vast sandy beaches and striking coastal landscape. Benone Strand, one of the longest beaches in Northern Ireland, is backed by sand dunes and offers spectacular views across the Atlantic Ocean toward Donegal and the Inishowen Peninsula. Adjacent to it is Downhill, home to the ruins of Downhill Demesne and Mussenden Temple, perched dramatically on cliffs overlooking the sea. The coastline features a mixture of rugged cliffs, dunes, and beach habitats that support an array of seabirds, wildflowers, and marine life. The area is part of the wider Causeway Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), attracting walkers, swimmers, birdwatchers, and anglers alike. Outdoor enthusiasts enjoy coastal hiking on the nearby Causeway Coast Way, fishing in local rivers, and exploring the ecological diversity of the sand dune systems and intertidal zones. Historic landmarks such as the Mussenden Temple and Downhill House estate add cultural depth to a visit here.
